Overview
The Original Shticktionary is a comic dictionary in the tradition of Ambrose Bierce's The Devil's Dictionary and Evan Esar's Comic Dictionary. But according to Dr. Richard Summerville's Prologue, the Shticktionary is much more than a comic dictionary. The work, says Dr. Summerville, is filled with rich tongue-in-cheek humor, irony, and occasional lampooning. Much of the wordplay is adapted to the contemporary American scene in 2012. Author Information
Dr. Dennis Raymond Ridley is the author of more than 100 professional publications in his fields of educational psychology, institutional research, and higher education. He has received several recognitions for these contributions, including a Distinguished Paper Award from the American Educational Research Association. The Original Shticktionary is Dr. Ridley's first book. His literary accomplishments are two: recognition on Drmardy.com as the only living Master of Chiasmus, and recognition on the Anagram Hall of Fame, found on wordsmith.org, for creation of an anagram of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Dr. Ridley also earned full professor status while employed by Christopher Newport University from 1985 to 1999. Further back, while attending Amherst College, Dr. Ridley served as the treasurer of a civil rights conference held at Mount Holyoke College in February 1965, organized by students from four cooperating colleges and one of the first such events to occur in the United States. Dr. Ridley is employed as a consultant and lives in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with his wife, the dancer Liane Ridley. Dr. Dennis Raymond Ridley is a veteran of 70 years on planet Earth, a patriot whose ties to the United States of America go back 400 years, and a truster in the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel, Leah, and Zipporah. He is a follower of the Nazarene carpenter whose name comes readily to everyone's lips, whether for blessing or cursing. With such a Creator, such a country, such a life, it is time to let the cursing go and celebrate our common lot and our many gifts on planet Earth.
