OverviewThis is a step by step manual on teaching fundamental horsemanship as a relationship between the horse and rider. The first lesson begins with asking, What is the difference between a horse and a car? The student learns and continues to be reminded that the horse is not a machine. The horse feels what the rider is doing, then thinks about it and responds. There are no push button horses nor are there push button people. The position of the rider should be about balance and harmony and not about appearing perfect for a judge. This book contains lesson programs for the first ten hours of beginner riding followed by beginner group lessons. It includes lessons for advance intermediate riders who have begun to school their own horses. There is a rather long section on the emotional states of individual students and especially on how fear can be overcome.
