Excerpt from The Orations Against Athenogenes and Philippides: Edited With a Translation I. The object of this volume is to make avail able for readers in an easily accessible form the two most recently recovered orations of Hyperides. Both have already appeared in print, but the oration against Athenogenes is to be found only in the pages of certain French and German periodicals, or accompanied by an expensive fac simile, and the fragment against Philippides only in the same periodicals, or in a volume containing a large quantity of other matter, which a reader may or may not desire to possess, but which is, in any case, of a wholly different nature. The present volume aims at providing a readable text of these latest additions to classical Greek litera ture in a moderate compass and without hetero geneous additions.
