Author Information

Commencing with Victorian railways in 1959, Mr Hearsch rose through the ranks, attaining the position of Chief General Manager Transport Operations. In 1990, he was appointed to the role of Group General Manager Freight with Queensland Rail where he was responsible for the improved performance of the freight business, and contributed to the Queensland Main Line Upgrade project. Retiring from QR in 1998, Mr Hearsch established his own consultancy business, was a Director of the first rail Cooperative Research Centre for Rail Innovation (CRC) and the Australian representative to the International Union of Railways. Mr Hearsch received the 2012 RTSA INDIVIDUAL AWARD in recognition of his long and distinguished career in the Australian rail industry, and he continues this contribution as a Director of Rail Innovation Australia Pty Ltd and as the President of the Rail Futures Institute, an independent, non-partisan group formed to advocate sustainable rail solutions for public transport and freight problems.
