In a woodland not far from you stands a treehouse that is two hundred years old. The Old Treehouse is home to lots of woodland creatures. The book focuses on British woodland species and creatures, their habitats and journeys through the seasons. Barney Owl, he is the Manager of the Old Treehouse, he lives in Nook 1. Sammy Squirrel, she's a hotel helper who lives with her partner Sarah in Nook 2. Daley Pigeon is the Hotel marketeer, he lives in Nook 3 with his wife Pamela and son Perry. Barney Owl allocates nooks and crannies to needy creatures, collects rent (20 acorns a month) and is responsible for their safety as well as fixing mishaps along the way. This first book in the series finds The Old Treehouse with an empty nook. Empty nooks means not enough acorns for the winter! It's important that the hotel helpers promote the nook as soon as possible. Meanwhile, there is a family of mice who have come to the woods in search of a new home, they are refugees! They have been traveling for days and are hungry and scared, there are dangers in the woods! Just as all is lost, they bump into Daley who suggests they apply for the spare nook, but with no acorns they aren't sure Barney will let them in! This cute wildlife story is easy listening and reading, while introducing nature to children in an inspiring and easily relatable way. It teaches children about animal lifes and friendship as well as showing how friends can be generous and kind. The stories help to see how pulling together and helping each other can lead to great outcomes. These lovely stories are written especially for children between 3 and 7.
