The Old Spanish Bible of Moshe Arragel: Codex’s Prologue; Genesis - Translation. Volume 2

Overview

Volume 2 of our critical edition of the Arragel Bible includes a bilingual presentation of the Codex’s Prologue with English translation and detailed notes on its sources, content, and value for the history of Jewish Christian relations in medieval Iberia, followed by Arragel’s Old Spanish translation of Genesis, with extensive notes on his translation approach to the original Hebrew, its textual echoes of Jewish Bible interpretations drawn from rabbinic and medieval sources, his linguistic predilections in matters of lexicon, morphology and syntax, the discernible interventions of his Christian collaborators, and textual comparisons with other Bible translations, both ancient and medieval, Jewish and Christian.
