Reviews

Essential reading for anyone wanting to understand today's Haiti as a real place in the context of its lore and spirit, impeccably translated so that Trouillot's incantatory prose can lift from the page to sing the praises of the forgotten. - Myriam J. A. Chancy, author of _What Storm, What Thunder_--Miriam Chancey, author of What Storm, What Thunder Trouillot is to Haiti what Gabriel García Márquez and Carlos Fuentes and Mario Vargas Llosa are as writers for their respective nations. It's harder to find North American comparisons, though I think of Robert Stone and Russell Banks.--Madison Smartt Bell
