OverviewExcerpt from The Numismatic Chronicle, Vol. 1 Almost all collectors of anglo-saxon coins have been dissatisfied with the position, which has been assigned to certain coins, which are ascribed to Egberth, king of Kent: all collectors have felt that Kent was not their proper locality, but that they ought properly to find a home in the North. I am not aware that any attempt has been made to locate them in that part of the world; but I fancy that I have discovered the time and place of their birth, and shall state my views, without further preface, for the amusement, and perhaps instruction of my brother numis matists. At pages 18 and 78 of the first volume of the Numismatic Journal, are given woodcuts of two coins, both of which (the coins, though not the cuts) read alike, and must be assigned to Aldfrith, who was king of Northumber land, from 685 to 705.
