Overview

"""A global slant to looking at numbers! A superb way for children to understand the importance of numbers in everyday life!"" - Wishing Shelf - View the Matterhorn from the cable cars! Ride the tuk-tuks in Thailand! How about a panoramic view of Sydney's Opera House high above from a hot air balloon? The Numbers are on the move around the world! From monster-sized trucks in Canada to the zipping skidoos in Antarctica, Numbers are working hard in the transport sector to help us travel and move. Number Reporters have been sent out all over the seven continents to document their faithful and daring action at work. Indeed the achievements of Numbers 10-99 need to acknowledged and celebrated, and Anchor Zero has been preparing to do so with flair and flamboyance. Be ready to be dazzled as the Numbers broadcast and celebrate the behind-the-scenes works of Numbers everywhere! John is ready to see the Numbers in action. Are you? Miss Anna has been working hard to present her next book, Number Story 5 and 6, the third sequel in The Number Story series. In The Number Story 5, children are invited to travel the continents with the Numbers as they are introduced to the greater family of Numbers. Counting by tens was never more entertaining, and counting through 11 to 99 never so fun! And best of all, the number 100 will delightfully light up the eyes of young boys and girls. Flip the book, and there is Number Story 6! In The Number Story 6, children will be escorted into the invisible world of chairs. Chairs One, with its friendly charm, guides them across the world of Numberland where the Chairs give each Number more meaning and value. The story captures the concept of place values (ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands), and learning the idea behind it has never been simpler! If your child enjoyed the Number Story series, The Number Story 5 and 6 will make him/her smile even more. Read with your child The Number Stories and show how fun learning numbers (both big and small) can be! I love MIss Anna's Number Stories! REVIEW This handy little book is a very clever way of helping children to understand not just how numbers work, but also why they are so important. With a global look at numbers, the author brings the young reader on a fascinating journey from Serengeti to Jiang-Jia-Jia (that's in China, by the way), showing them how a number helps the world to work. For example, for the number fifty, the author shows fifty Tuk-tuks carrying passengers in Bangkok. The books then progress to look at 'Value'. 'Value helps Numbers be all that they can be. Value helps Numbers reach to boundless INFINITY!' The author, using simple text and drawings shows how 'chairs'; yes, 'chairs!' can help the young reader to understand value in accordance with tens, hundreds, thousands etc. All in all, I was very impress by this little book. I would think any child aged 6 - 9 would find it interesting and helpful. Basically, the author is providing the reader with a 'hook' to remember numbers, and how and why they work. For example, the sixty flying balloons over Sydney is not only a fun image, but is also a strong 'hook' for readers to remember the form and importance of the number sixty.
