OverviewThis book is for the empath. This book is, more specifically, for the empath in nudist communities. This book is for the woman who, when she is honest with herself, recognizes that her experience of nudist spaces is fundamentally different from the experience that the marketing literature describes. The marketing literature describes nudism as liberating, as freeing, as a profound act of self-acceptance and embodied joy. The marketing literature is, in many ways, accurate. Nudism is all of those things, for many people, in many moments. The marketing literature, however, does not describe the specific empath experience, which is that the same practices that are liberating for many people are, for the empath, also, simultaneously, depleting in a way that nobody has ever quite explained. If you are the kind of nudist who goes to resorts and comes home feeling rejuvenated, this book is not for you. You are operating on a different system. You are wired differently. Your nervous system is doing different things in those environments. I am not, in any sense, suggesting that your experience is invalid. Your experience is yours. Your experience is, in fact, what the marketing literature describes, and the marketing literature is describing it accurately, for you. You can put this book down. You can give it to a friend. You can carry on with your perfectly functional relationship to the practice, and I wish you well. If you are the kind of nudist who goes to resorts and comes home feeling, despite the fine weather and the good food and the pleasant conversations, somehow worse than when you left, this book is for you. You are not, I want to say up front, broken. You are not bad at nudism. You are not failing at the practice. You are an empath, in environments that demand a particular kind of openness, without having been given any of the tools that the openness requires. You have been doing emotional labor that you did not know you were doing. The labor has been costing you. The cost has been showing up, predictably, on Sunday afternoons, in your entryway, in the form of an inability to stand up. This book is going to give you the tools.
