Reviews

'The New Zealand Horse, which features Waikato Stud's latest stallion recruit, Tivaci, on its jacket, bears the stamp of a labour of love by author and photographer. That is entirely appropriate for a near 400-page deep dive into the world of the horse, where so many of its participants place their passion for this unique animal ahead of any aspirations for tangible reward.' - Dennis Ryan, The Informant

Author Information

Deborah Coddington has worked as a journalist, broadcaster and writer with many media organisations — Metro, North & South, Herald on Sunday, Sunday Star-Times, BBC World Service, Radio Live and NewstalkZB — and has won numerous awards for her feature articles as well as a Qantas Feature Writer of the Year Award and a Wolfson Press Fellowship to Cambridge University. From 2002 to 2005 she was an MP for the ACT Party. Deborah’s memoir, The Good Life on Te Muna Road, was published by Random House New Zealand in 2015. Deborah is married to Colin Carruthers QC, and they grow grapes and make wine on their 11.5 hectare vineyard, Te Muna Valley Wines, at Martinborough in the Wairarapa. She has four children and three grandchildren. Jane Ussher MNZM is one of New Zealand’s most lauded photographers. Perhaps best known for her photographs for the Listener and, more recently, magazines such as New Zealand House & Garden, her photographs have also appeared in the high-profile, award-winning books Coast, Islands, Worship, The New Zealand Horse, Endless Sea, Nature — Stilled, and Historic New Zealand Homesteads. Jane lives in Kerikeri, Northland.
