OverviewThe New York State School Superintendent Handbook covers every aspect of the school superintendent hearing process.New York State Education Law 3214 authorizes a principal to suspend a student a maximum of 5 school days. If a student violates the school Code of Conduct to an extreme, such as possession of a weapon, drug use/sale, or an assault the principal can request a superintendent hearing. Education Law allows a school superintendent to extend a school suspension beyond 5 days to several weeks, semester, and in some cases a full year.
