Overview

Ben Nelson and his wife Marjorie are writers who suffered the tragedy of losing their four-year-old daughter, Madeline, to a drunk driver. They ease their pain by resurrecting her as a fictional character where they can watch her grow up and experience the moments of joy in her life that were lost by this terrible event. Ben suggests to Marjorie that his prior fictional character, Darcy Malone, adopt her and raise her in the story. In this new story Ben and Marjorie write, Darcy Malone has worked hard for twenty five years to build a reputation for being a fearless and determined private detective. Pursuing her career has left her little time to start a family. She fills that hole in her life by adopting a five-year old orphan named Maddie. The two of them become a 'team' and help people by solving their mysteries. When a case brings Darcy to a life or death confrontation, she worries about leaving Maddie an orphan a second time, causing her to rethink her profession. Of course, Maddie, who is feisty and precocious, also has a talent for solving mysteries. As Maddie and Darcy bond and work at solving mysteries filled with danger and intrigue together, they find the answers that people are seeking and help them change their lives for the better.
