OverviewThis book is a sequel to The Adventures of Apple John, The Man - The Myth. I'll give a brief description of my friend, Apple John, so you'll have a better idea of who he is. Apple John is a real person. He lives near Hendersonville, North Carolina. No one knows for sure why he is called ""Apple John"", but I suspect that it's because he is usually seen munching on an apple, with another handy in his back pocket. Nor does anyone know his age, and he's not telling. John is of medium height, has a gangling but strong body, with long legs and arms. He has penetrating light blue eyes that sparkle as he talks. His hair is grey, streaked with black, and long, slightly wispy, and hangs to just over his large ears, which jut out at a jaunty angle, without lobes, giving him a somewhat comical look. His nose is also rather large and bulbous. His chin is receding and slightly pointed below the thin, sensuous lips. His neck is long and red from constant exposure to the mountain sunlight. Over his eyes that always seem locked in a penetrating stare, are thick, black, woolly-worm eyebrows. To offset his brows and hide his chin, he wears a ragged, unkempt beard. It is long, reaching to the top of the dingy farmer's coveralls that he always wears over a ragged, red flannel shirt, with faded pink long-johns underneath. On his feet are worn-out aviator boots left over from his days as an aircraft mechanic aboard the USS Crash-a-lot, the Piper Cub aircraft carrier that was posted in the Gulf of Tonkin just off the Vietnam coast. The end of the right boot has a hole through which pokes his big toe. He never wears socks. He says that real men don't need socks. Bare feet make him strong. He sometimes uses his big toe, with its horny toenail, to scratch the perpetual rash he has on his other ankle. You would need to search a long way back in the mountains to find his house, but I can tell you that it is way out beyond World's Edge, near the top of Hickory Nut Falls. You can't see Rumbling Bald from his place, but you can hear it. He made me promise not to tell y'all more than that.
