OverviewThis self-contained reference brings together the signal processing and subjective and physical aspects of modern room acoustics. The authors introduce the basic technologies of sound field control at a level which assumes basic knowledge of the Fourier transform and avc phenomena. Techniques of signal analysis are presented, followed by discussion of sound propagation, intensity distributions, and subjective and physiological responses to sound fields and sound field control. Rosenhouse in MSSP Author InformationMikio Tohyama holds a Doctorate of Engineering from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan. Beginning in 1975 and for the next 18 years, Dr. Tohyama worked in research projects involving acoustics, vibration, and signal processing at the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) Research Laboratories in Japan. From 1993 until 2003 he was professor at Kogakuin University, Tokyo, before moving to Waseda University, Tokyo, where he was professor of sound and auditory perception until 2012. In 2012 he founded a research consulting firm, Wave Science Study (WSS), which he still runs today. His present research interests are sound signature analysis oriented to sound field perception. Dr. Tohyama enjoys playing the piano every day. Professor Yoichi Ando was awarded the 1995 Institute Honor by the American Institute of Architects. His 30 years of work developing and applying new theories of concert hall acoustics have helped redefine the way music is heard. A scientist, author and educator, his achievements are a benefit to both the world of architecture and the world of music. He was Associate Dean at the Graduate School of Science and Technology, Kobe University, Japan. 1975 Received PhD from Waseda University Alexander-von-Humboldt Fellow (1975.7-1977.5) at Drittes physikalisches Institut, Universitat Gottingen 2001 Established Journal of Temporal Design http://www.jtdweb.org/ 2002 Received Dottore AD Honorem“ (Laurea Honoris Causa), University of Ferrara 2003 Professor Emeritus, Graduate School Kobe University 2013 Member, Bologna Academy of Science Author: Concert Hall Acoustics, Springer (1985), Architectural Acoustics, Springer (1998), Auditory Visual Sensations, Springer (2009), Brain-Grounded Theory of Temporal and Spatial Design, and 10 other books.
