OverviewIn 1971, Marty and Nia, a young middle-class black couple, leave behind the hustle and bustle of the big city to move to a small, seemingly quiet predominantly white town in Pennsylvania. Marty, a promising doctor, accepts a position at the only local hospital, while Nia, a former singer, tries to find her place amidst the silence and monotony of her new life. What should be a promising new beginning soon becomes a maze of mistrust and disturbing events. Nia begins to feel more and more isolated in her new community, facing microaggressions, the strong political and racial environment and the weight of loneliness. As the silence in her home intensifies, Nia begins to notice strange behaviors in Marty - changes in his personality that make her question whether the man she married is still the same. What seemed like mere marital mistrust turns into paranoia when Nia discovers disturbing evidence that Marty may have been replaced by someone - or something - completely different. As the town's oppressive atmosphere intensifies, she finds sinister connections between local history, religion and social control mechanisms. Determined to uncover the truth, Nia finds herself confronting her own sanity and fighting for her survival.
