Herbert A. Popley (1879-1960) was a Christian missionary of the London Mission, Erode, a translator, and musicologist. He was known for his translation of Tirukkural composed by a popular ancient Tamil sage Thiruvalluvar, under the title, The Sacred Kural: Or, the Tamil Veda of Tiruva??uvar. He held the posts of the Director of the YMCA, and the Director of the Coonoor Co-operative Bank Ltd.
