Overview

The night before she was murdered, Faith had been studying with Karena at the Davis Library, on the university campus. At around 8 or 8:30 p.m., Faith took a break from her studies to send a text to her father - Hey Daddy, I love you, the message read. She also texted her niece, reminding her to register to vote in the upcoming election.At around midnight, the girls left the library and stopped back at their apartment before heading out at approximately 1 a.m. to arrive at a nightclub called The Thrill.Just after 2:30 a.m., the girls left the bar. Karena was feeling sick after having had too much to drink, and wanted to go home. Faith helped Karena get into bed, and then fell asleep herself. However, a text message from Faith's phone was received at 3:40 a.m. by Brandon Edwards, Karena's ex-boyfriend. Hey b. can you come over here please, the message read. Karena needs you more aha. You know. Please let her know you care. A few minutes later, another text comes through that simply says, than. It is suspected that the message was intended to fix a typo in the original message, correcting it to say Karena needs you more than you know. Brandon didn't reply until the next day, when Faith's phone received a text at 4:16 p.m. that read, Who is this? At around 4:30 a.m., Karena left the apartment to go over to a friend's house - and claims that she did see Faith asleep at that time. When she returned at around 11 a.m., however, she found her roommate's body in her room, in her bed, covered by a blanket on top of her slightly askew mattress with large amounts of blood.
