Overview

In the early 20th century, banks, industry, insurance companies, and other institutions learned how to handle catastrophes and war. They came to anticipate, manage, and adapt to unpredictable situations and chaos. They learned how to finance all sides without looking at any moral compass. This created a power structure for uninterrupted continuity and financial flourishing. We follow Norman, a young boy growing up in 1930s Germany, as he is indoctrinated by the prevailing ideology and faces challenging situations before he learns how society works. We also meet Fatima, a young woman in Palestine when the first Jews arrive, transferred from anti-Semitic Germany, where they had lost everything avoiding being sent to the camps. But settling in an already populated country soon gives rise to conflicts that risk escalating further in the future. The systems that passed through the wars-intelligence networks, financial institutions, and regulatory frameworks- became the embryonic structure of coordinated institutions operating above national boundaries, and it continued to mature into something even more sophisticated...
