Inspired by true events. When eighteen-year-old Hashim Abu-Tir accidentally improves the Qassam missile design in a Gaza City bunker, he singlehandedly pushes the conflict twenty miles deeper into Israeli territory. Socially awkward and usually overlooked, Hashim is thrust into the spotlight-hailed as a hero in Gaza, hunted as a terrorist by the Israeli military intelligence. When a deadly suicide bombing at the Gaza-Israel border triggers a chain of mistaken identities, Hashim's fate takes an unexpected turn. Forced to flee, he finds himself on the run with Roni, a soldier in Israel's elite Paratrooper Brigade. Thrown together in the chaos, the two sworn enemies become reluctant allies, their escape setting off a nationwide media frenzy. Hunted by the private army of a polls-addicted Prime Minister, they are aided by an arch-terrorist turned pacifist and adopted by the most cynical PR advisor in the country. In order to survive, the two sworn enemies quickly learn that they have no choice but to rewrite the roles they were born into. The story takes place on both sides of the border, taking the reader on an authentic journey through the alleyways of Gaza City, the awe-inspiring views of Jerusalem, the dusty border town of Sedera and the underground smugglers' tunnels into Egypt.
