Overview

Untold numbers of people in today's western culture are wandering aimlessly in a hopeless morass of 21st century 'ism's' that lead nowhere and give no satisfaction and purpose to life. A form of Christianity that once was a major force in society now does not satisfy because it has lost its way and is dying from the roots up. But this is the 21st century and things are very, very different now. Or are they? Multitudes of people are headed for a Christ-less eternity because they think that there is no hope and no future for this world and its people. Has the Gospel failed? Is Christianity a spent and failed force? Perhaps it has not really been tried the way it was intended and over the last few decades, has been modified and re-stated by those who feel that they have an answer that is better than the one that the Founder first proclaimed. The author of this volume, Evangelist Neil Flower, seeks to show the Church of today that real Christianity is not finished; in fact it can have a bright and hopeful future if it will ask God to take off the 'blinkers' of liberal and 'society decreed' culture and begin to simply do it 'God's way'. In this insightful book, Neil gives four great principles which, if tried, could bring the Church back onto its original course. While critics will scoff and say that it is all too late, they are the ones who have brought the church to where it is now and have been refusing to do 'it' God's way for the past century or so. Why not remove your blinkers and just try the Jesus way?

Reviews

Neil Flower has given us a remarkable book filled not only with a timely reminder of the need for more effective outreach, he has placed it alongside stunningly simple and practical ideas for how to do it. The examples and samples in the appendices (what an inane word) are priceless. I strongly commend the book for ministry teams to work through together.Chris Edwards, Bishop of North Sydney

Author Information

"Who is this Neil Flower who has put his name to this book?Well, for a start he is an ordained Anglican Minister who was ordained in 1966, and who has spent a lifetime in innovative ministry. He has spent over 34 years as a parish minister, in areas of all socio-economic levels, has been a Youth worker with the Church Missionary Society, and has pioneered Cross Cultural ministry in the Anglican Church in Sydney, has been instrumental in planting 3 new Congregations and Churches, and has led Evangelistic Outreaches in parishes in every state in Australia and been a lecturer in Evangelism Method at the Church Army College of Evangelism where he was also able to mentor young evangelists with 'on the job' training. He is committed to the complete authority of the Scriptures and the reformed doctrines of salvation by faith alone through grace alone through the finished work of Christ alone. In his spare time(!) he has also pioneered a number of innovative programs and methods of Adult Christian Education most notably being the 'Cabramatta Christian Cassette Club' which sent packs of graded Christian teaching Cassettes to people in isolated areas Australia wide which helped these people to do a Bible College Course by 'distance' education. At the same time he founded, directed and ran the ""Guided Growth in Grace"" Program at his Church which was in reality an ""in House"" Bible College for ordinary Parishioners which took people from basic discipleship training right through to Diploma level studies. He has also been Chaplain to a couple of 4WD Clubs in Sydney, and has been involved in the formation of a number of ministries especially aimed at the 'Aussie bloke'. Before he went into the ministry he worked as a truckie, Water Board labourer and cab driver in Sydney. On the other side of the coin he has also been known to lead in the odd debate on University campuses and taught at a Bible College in Sydney. He loves 'the bush', his Four Wheel Drive vehicle but especially sharing the Good News about Jesus. In this regard, he has never had to look for work, it always seems to find him! He's supposed to be retired now but in fact runs a consultancy ministry in Christian mission and leadership where he is still involved in the training and development of both men and women for Christian Outreach and Discipleship. He has been married to Jane for 55 years and is a grandfather 6 times over - and loves it!In short, he reckons that it is impossible to categorise him (so please don't try!) but that he is also 'a good bloke'."
