Overview

This book addresses several social issues from bullying to incest, poverty and pedophilia, a taboo seldom openly discussed. The action is sustained and methods employed by Johnny are imaginative if sometimes rough. The Mighty Goblin is a saga telling the tale of a migrant family, escaping genetically transmitted poverty, misery and despair. Johnny, the younger member of this Portuguese family ran the gauntlet and thrived against all odds. This runt of a man became a successful entrepreneur. He had to defend his Barcelo Recycling Inc against other scrap yard dogs and the Maine Environment Protection Agency; as well as against the New York Mafiosi, when the Familia attempted to evict him from the Saint Augustine, Johnnys lucrative fun and frolic place of ill repute . After twenty five years, restless because always looking for a mountain to climb, he drowned his extreme drive in alcohol. Then, he met Father Tim, a disenchanted priest. Priests collect the parishs societal garbage; Father Tim learned of a particularly horrible situation. They teamed and saved a family of four from the tentacles of their sadist stepfather, a recidivist pedophile. Steven had sold the kids to other pedophiles who were also corralled and punished in a most unusual way. A TV chain paid millions to have exclusive access to videos depicting the creative expiation forced on these five criminals. Paterson, the unrelenting detective drew blanks for a long time; but dogged Paterson finally caught Johnny. Paterson had seen the damage inflicted to these battered kids by the intricate court system, often allowing lawyers to further abuse the victims, while the wealthy perpetrators were walking free.... He hesitates...
