The plot tells of a wealthy man known as Ashton killed under strange circumstances, whose past no one knows much about. One of the greatest assets of this story is that everything, from the plot and descriptions to the various psychological dimensions of the characters - who are more or less common citizens - all have quite a lot of depth that only becomes apparent after a more careful examination of the facts and clues involved in the murder mystery. The Middle of Things is essentially the perfect old-fashioned murder story, depicted majestically by an author in his prime. If you truly want to be entertained and surprised by an enjoyable read that will definitely not prove to be predictable, this is one book you should check out.
