For they knew very well, that fuch only could be competent Judges of their Works, and would receive them with ''the efteem. they might deferve. So far at leaft I can copy after thofe great Originals, as to chufe a Patron for thefe Speculations, whofe known skill and abilities in fuch matters will enable him to judge, and whofe known candor will incline him to judge favourably, of the fhare I have had in the prefent performance. For as to the fundamental part of the Work, of which I am only the Interpreter, I know it cannot but pleafe you; it will need no protection, nor ean it receive a greater recommendation, than to bear the name of its illuftrious Author.
