OverviewExcerpt from The Metaphysic of Experience, Vol. 4 of 4 Accordingly, the cardinal and ultimate distino tion between the domains of Logic and Ethic, as practical sciences, is this, that Logic speaks of the ways in Which we must think, if we would avoid error in thinking Ethic of the way in which we must choose, if we would avoid blame in choosing; both thinking and choosing being necessities of our nature. And not only are both of them necessities of our nature, but they are inseparable one from the other; it is only by abstraction that they can be sundered. When we call the domain of Logic thought or reasoning, and that of Ethic practice or conduct, we do so only by conceiving thought as perpetually choosing a particular end, namely, knowledge or truth of fact, prior to com paring and judging facts, and practice as per petually comparing the preferabilities of alterna tive actions, prior to the action of choosing between them. No thought is possible without volition, and no volition possible without thought. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
