Overview

AN IMPORTANT NOTE FOR THE READER There are pictures to illustrate some of the scenarios that Adam Rice found himself in for the benefit of the reader. Some of these are nude pictures. They are not for titillation but represent the images in the imagination and fantasy of a troubled man obsessed with domination and control of others. There are also descriptions of abuse and violence and so may not be suitable for the sensitive. Many readers will not believe that the following really happened. I did not at first. However it is based on the authentic experiences of a genuinely discontented man. The following narrative tells of a primal form of healing where spirits represent the causes of mental problems and the inability to cope with what life throws at us. As a therapist of many years experience I realised that it is necessary to go back to the dark rooms of the past and to open the black cupboards that contain the crap that has changed a person for the worse. This account comes from a man who told me his story in order to help others rather than seek help from me. I have transcribed it as best as possible from the notes I made with inputs from Adam Rice (not his real name to preserve privacy) who undertook the journey. The pictures were chosen by him as being the closest approximation of what he remembers seeing. Sometimes, some forms of therapy are spontaneous, unexpected and less formal than psychotherapy as it is known in our present times. There is an old therapy that uses metaphors to enable us to deal with the mental demons that live inside our heads. The cave dwelling shamans of old were the first to use this form of psychotherapy to find a release from the malevolence that wrecks lives. Adam Rice is a man whose life was totally destroyed by his desire for money, women and power. This resulted in major unhappiness at not always getting what he wanted. Almost as a joke he thought he would take part in an old style of ritual that would give him knowledge of the paranormal that would empower him to get what he considered necessary for his complete happiness. How wrong that thought was in intention but not in its result. It involved a journey through the dark places in his mind that terrified him but which brought about a change that affected everything in his life. These changes are summarised in a separate section in the second half of the book written by Adam for the benefit of others.
