Author Information

"Natalie Knox is a qualified teacher and has had a career in primary school teaching. She has been a community lay counsellor for children in crisis, including general on call trauma work and specialised divorce recovery counselling. She is currently working as a writer, taking the experiences she has had in the classroom and in the counselling room, to create stories that touch hurting children's hearts. Natalie and her husband have three children and live in the south of Spain. They love exploring new places, long walks with their Spanish greyhound and eating delicious food. Doraine Livingston is an artist by nature and a designer by choice. Living in South Africa, she has always had nature around her to draw inspiration from. Her favourite theme to paint is wildlife and she does this magnificently with acrylics in a realistic style. Having studied graphic design, Doraine chose a career in desk top publishing. After 20 years in the industry she is now a freelance designer with a confident and creative flair. Her clients include major children's magazine publications and marketing projects for corporates. Doraine lives on the east coast of South Africa with her husband and son. She loves escaping into the wild with her art supplies and a sense of adventure. Mariaan du Plooy was born in 1973 and grew up in Cape Town, South Africa. Drawing has always been part of her life and as a child she remembers that she would always seek out books at the library based on the cover art especially the work of F. Lategan whose work she greatly admired. Although she did not follow her dream to become a book illustrator after school, she continued to draw and paint for family and friends. It was not until she started a learning to paint course by South African artist Leonie e Brown in 2012 that she realised that through hard work she can still accomplish some of her childhood dreams. She is now a part time fine artist who mainly paints in oils using a pallet knife to build up layers. However, doing a book illustration was still on her bucket list. So, when Natalie Knox asked her to do the illustrations for her book she could not pass on this opportunity. ""Although I have done a commission here and there, this is my first book illustration, which brought me as much joy as I thought it would."" She illustrates with water colour pencils and paint on water colour paper giving her work a traditional feel."
