The introductions provide a short precis of the purpose of the chapter followed by a selection of verses that summarize the content. Each surah (chapter) is also subdivided under separate headings. These headings are not in the original Arabic Qur'an and have been added to give English readers a clearer path through the text. Abdullah Yusuf Ali: Abdullah Yusuf Ali (14 April 1872 10 December 1953) was an Indian Islamic scholar. In 1938, Yusuf Ali's translation of the Qur'an was published in Lahore. His translation of the Qur'an is one of the most widely-known and used in the English-speaking world. He died in 1953 in London.
