The Masonic Book Club, Vol. 19: Records of the Hole Crafte and Fellowship of Masons: Records of the Hole Crafte and Fellowship of Masons

Overview

The Records of the Hole Crafte and Fellowship o f Masons represents an important link in the history of Freemasonry during the period when the institution was evolving from the operative to the speculative Craft. When first published the work was immediately recognized as an important contribution to the literature of Freemasonry, and over the years has acquired the appellation of Masonic Classic. As the purpose of the Masonic Book Club is to make out-of-print Masonic Classics available to Masonic scholars, Conder's book is very appropriate indeed. It was last published in 1894 and is acknowledged to have made a valuable contribution to the research of Masonic scholars worldwide. Hopefully, our readers will find this reprint not only interesting reading, but also valuable as a basis for their own writing. The included commentary is based on handwritten scraps of research notes from the many boxes of materials collected by Alphonse Cerza. In his last instructions to us, A1 asked that we keep our commentary to a minimum and to direct our readers to Knoop and others who have really done a fine job. Hopefully, we have done this. Each bit of information has been carefully scrutinized and documented so as to continue Cerza's dedication to scholarly work. The book represents Cerza's great spirit of scholarship and devotion to not only his Brothers in the Craft but also to his drive for truth in all areas of life. Louis L. Williams Robin L.
