OverviewWhen ISIS terrorists took over the city of Mosul in northern Iraq, they placed a mark on the homes of Christians in order to target them. This mark was the Arabic letter N. It looks like the letter U with a dot placed above it. This mark signifies N for Nazarene, an Arabic word that designates a Christian, or a follower of Jesus. This sign was the Mark of the Nazarene. The ISIS fighters intended to eliminate all followers of Jesus in the territories that they seized. Many Iraqi Christians fled for their lives. Some were captured and kept as hostages. Others were martyred for their faith. Mosul in ancient times was called Nineveh and was the capital of the Assyrian empire. One of the groups targeted by ISIS are the Assyrian Christians. Assyrians still speak Aramaic, the language of Jesus. In Libya, terrorists affiliated with ISIS captured and martyred 20 Egyptian Coptic Christians. These Christian groups are the indigenous peoples of the Middle East, who lived in the region thousands of years before the Arabs arrived bringing Islam. Who are the Copts and who are the Assyrians, and who are the other Christian peoples of the Middle East? How should Christians respond to the threat of Islamist terror? Answers to these questions and more are explored in ""The Mark of the Nazarene.""
