Born in Dumbarton to Welsh-born parents, Catherine Brown grew up with strong family values and maintained close ties with her Welsh relatives, most of whom lived in and around the Rhymney Valley.  She attended Dumbarton Academy, where her curiosity about the wider world first began to develop. Catherine has travelled widely and spent many years living and working in the Middle East, an experience that gave her a deep appreciation for different cultures and ways of life. Now retired, she lives in South Yorkshire with her husband Tom and enjoys spending time with their grandchildren.  Catherine has a strong passion for family history research, often spending hours of quiet time at a favourite location on the east coast, while continuing to trace her ancestry.  She also enjoys coastal walks, live music and theatre, murder mysteries and keeping in touch with family and friends across the UK and beyond.
