Overview

Her mother was cursed. Will she suffer the same fate? Windsor, Connecticut, 1647. Alse Young is a wife, a mother, and a woman of faith. But when sickness and death spread through her town, whispers gather like storm clouds. Accused of witchcraft, she becomes the first person hanged for the crime in the American colonies. Thirty years later, her daughter Alice Beamon carries the same stain. Known only as the witch's daughter, Alice struggles to build a life. She marries, bears children, and tends her household with quiet hope--but when misfortune strikes her neighbors, old suspicions rise. The voices that condemned her mother begin to circle her, and history threatens to repeat itself. Told across two generations, this haunting novel explores faith and fear, love and betrayal, and the terrible power of a community gripped by hysteria. From the gallows of Hartford to the fields of Springfield, it asks what it means to survive when your very name is a curse. Inspired by true events, this is the untold story of Alse Young--the first woman executed for witchcraft in America--and the daughter who lived in her shadow. Perfect for fans of Hannah Kent, Stacey Halls, and Margaret Atwood.

Author Information

Amelia Frost is the author of The Lost Witch of Windsor. Darcey Rhoads is a Los Angeles-based American actor with uncanny comedic timing and a genuine love for the art of storytelling. Known best as that redhead girl who kept showing up on Joseph Gordon-Levitt's variety show, HitRecord, on Netflix, Darcey has appeared in numerous indie films and side projects that she has written and coproduced with her production team Mixed Nuts. Her voice has been described as droll, youthful, relatable, and maybe a tiny bit sarcastic. Darcey loves bringing YA stories to life, especially if there is a fantasy or science fiction element, and she has a soft spot for complicated, often misunderstood but highly redeemable characters. She is also a huge fan of fantasy/sci-fi, gamelit, romantic comedies, and dark humor. Outside of actor life, Darcey is basically a giant nerd-she loves gaming (console, board, D&D-you name it, she'll probably play it), is an avid pop culture know-it-all, and mother of cats . . . well, cat. She'll have her army of cats one day.
