My story is based on my first year fighting cancer. I woke up one day with a lump under the left side of my neck. I was in total shock when I found out I had stage 4 follicular non-Hodgkin lymphoma. My main character in my story is Charlie Carlson. A twelve-year old child that has stage IV diffuse large B-cell lymphoma cancer. He fights his cancer the same way I did, with chemo and using his imagination. Charlie and his family are fictional characters in my book but the story is based on my fight with cancer. I worked very hard to be as accurate as I could on his treatments so that you the reader would understand first hand what it is like getting chemotherapy, blood tests, doctors visits, and some of the complications that can happen, and some of the good things that can happen during treatments. My story will take you the reader through all that one might experience fighting cancer. The story is uplifting and offers hope. I always thought other people get cancer, but it won't happen to me! Well it did happen to me! I hope you enjoy my story and it helps prepare you for what may lie ahead of you when a family member or loved one gets treated for cancer.
