Overview

Bob Hartman has a growing reputation as a storyteller who can capture children’s imagination and keep them spellbound. In this new collection he blends familiar stories with little-known tales. There are retellings from sources as diverse as La Fontaine, Aesop, Uncle Remus, and folk tales and legends from around the world. Yet this is more than just another collection of animal stories – most of the appealing retellings have been selected because of their implicit moral teaching or to show something positive to children. This captivating collection reflects the storyteller’s humour and joy of life, both of which are echoed in Susie Poole’s bold watercolour illustrations.
