OverviewThis book contains R. E. Davies' 1907 biography of Welsh textile manufacturer, philanthropist, and social reformer Robert Owen (1771-1858). Owen founded utopian socialism and the cooperative movement, but is perhaps best known for his reformative endeavours. An advocate of the working class, he became a trade unionist leader and fought for both child labour laws and free education for children. Notable works by Owen include: Observations on the Effect of the Manufacturing System (1815), An Address to All Classes in the State (1832) , and The Revolution in the Mind and Practice of the Human Race (1849). Highly recommended for those with an interest in the history of labour reform in England. Read & Co.
