Overview

Krishna is a major deity in Hinduism. He is worshipped as the eighth avatar of Vishnu and also as the supreme God in his own right. He is the god of protection, compassion, tenderness, and love and is one of the most popular and widely revered among Indian divinities. Krishna's birthday is celebrated every year by Hindus on Krishna Janmashtami according to the lunisolar Hindu calendar, which falls in late August or early September of the Gregorian calendar. This book is the first of a series of four books that concisely describe the life of Lord Krishna as told in the ancient scripture, the Srimad Bhagavatam. It describes childhood life of Krishna growing up in the idyllic region of Vraja, including His sublime interactions with great devotees such as the gopis (cowherd women). It also details His actions in upholding dharma (the divine law of righteousness) by protecting the good and destroying evil on Earth.
