His father was a farmer/building foreman while his mother helped run the farm and raised the family. He has lived in various parts of Ireland and the USA, with jobs and occupations that have included construction, the bar trade, security and retail in Ireland and the USA. He has been writing since his teens. He resides today in Ballivor, Co. Meath with his wife and two daughters. In addition to The Life and Times of a 'Gotcha', his thinly fictionalised memoir of time spent working in the Irish security business during the 1980s and 90s, other previously published work includes volumes of poetry and prose: Never Take an Irishman Seriously Unless He's Armed (New York, 1988) and The Potless Generation (2014). James is a member of The Meath Writers Circle, also The Boyne Writers and the internet writers group, Splinter4All. He has had poems published in Boyne Berries, Meath Writers Anthology and Revolve (a local magazine in Meath).
