Overview

Macy, a retired librarian, goes through her diary in every chapter of this novel. She explores love's losses and gains. It's an exploration in the depths of heartaches and happiness. In Macy's younger years, when the boy next door and her become best friends, she tries to ignore the fact his parents argue and fight almost daily. She can hear the chaos in her bedroom and throughout the rest of the house she shares with her loving parents. She grows used to it and still develops a very close relationship with the boy, Derek. What happens when Derek is an adult, his parents follow him to the big city, and his mom is put in the hospital by the hands of his own father? His dad disappeared to never return home. Where did Derek's dad go? Is he alive or dead? If that's not the worst of it, poor Macy has only been working at the city's library a short time when she makes the mistake of dating the wrong man!
