OverviewFor one all too brief moment in the 1950s, the Whitby Dunlops caught the imagination of hockey fans from coast to coast and became Canada s team, winning the 1958 Ice Hockey World Championship against the upstart Russians and restoring our pride in our own game. Notable members of the team were Sid Smith (former Maple Leafs captain), Harry Sinden (future Boston Bruins and Team Canada Summit Series coach), Bob Attersley (future Whitby mayor), and Wren Blair (future Minnesota North Stars general manager and Pittsburg Penguin owner). This is the inspirational story of the legendary Dunnies rise from the ranks of Senior A hockey to international prominence, based on interviews with living team members and the rich archives of the Hockey Hall of Fame and the Whitby Public Library. The Whitby Dunlops were responsible for resurrecting Senior hockey in Ontario. Scott Young, Globe and Mail We didn t expect an amateur team to be that strong! They would have beaten us under any conditions.
