OverviewSmall Towns No Longer the Same The rural village of southern Ontario where each person knew every other person, as well as each person's family history for at least three generations past, represents an era of history. Like Anne of Green Gables, Tom Sawyer, and Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town represent a time that is no more, The Last of the Small-Town Boys celebrates the passing of another time. Although the setting is Beeton and Flesherton, it could have been set in any number of other little villages and towns in Ontario and Canada. It's in the little towns that one discovers a country, in the kind of knowledge that comes from small days and nights. James Salter, novelist An impressive recall of our early lives.
