The Last Great Susquehannock Chief

Overview

JUDAH JOSEPH BECAME BLUE EAGLE. His quest to be a Susquehannock warrior in colonial America is highlighted by cultural clashes, heroic journeys, tribal obstacles, colonial diseases, hunting, conflicts, power disputes, and battles with warring enemies. His followers will remember his inspirational leadership as The Last Great Susquehannock Chief. In the middle of the 17th century, a young Jewish man took his first steps toward becoming a Susquehannock warrior and chief. Captured in a raid on a New Amsterdam settlement, Judah wins a place among the tribe that snatched him out of his simple, ordinary life of a leather goods maker. Across a wilderness and within the tribal community that he comes to lead, Judah becomes Blue Eyes, and then Blue Eagle, fighting enemy nations that were both native and colonizing. His courage and insights are tested in his journeys.

Author Information

C.A. Rose devoured adventure books starting in middle school, and then wrote short stories a la O. Henry that had twisted endings. He continued to read and write through a long Army career, and although he has at least a dozen more ideas written down somewhere, this one at 80 is his debut. He's had many jobs but only one passion - to convey a tale about a time and place where people struggled to maintain their freedom, values and way of life despite forces arrayed against them. He lives and writes in Austin with his wife Jan, who is his inspiration.
