The King's Bow: An Epic Animal Fantasy Adventure (The Great Lighthouse, Book 1)

Overview

Book One of the Great Lighthouse Series A throne falls to voracious teeth. An ancient power stirs beneath the streets. A reluctant heir must flee into predator lands. If he cannot claim a legendary weapon meant for kings, his people will be butchered and his world devoured. Asher has spent his life avoiding responsibility. But when tragedy shatters the Rabbethi kingdom and a bloodthirsty horde descends upon his homeland, he discovers there is nowhere left to run. With his people scattered and their future uncertain, Asher must become the one thing he has always feared: king. His only hope to reunite the fractured Rabbethi lies in a relic thought lost to history: The King’s Bow, a divine weapon said to grant its wielder a fragment of godlike power. To find it, Asher must journey far beyond the safety of his homeland. Accompanied by Cara, a cunning agent of the Vulpen Queendom, he travels through hostile territories, navigates dangerous political alliances, and enters lands ruled by ancient enemies. Though instinct and loyalty put them at odds, the two must learn to trust one another if they are to survive. But they are not the only ones seeking the weapon. A powerful high priestess has plans for the Bow, and for Asher’s blood. If she succeeds, she will unleash a darkness far older and more terrible than war itself. And Asher soon learns that claiming the weapon is only the beginning. With the crown heavy on his head and the fate of the world in his paws, he must choose: become the leader his people need, or watch Tamuz drown in blood and shadow. Perfect for readers who love: Adult epic fantasy with deep world-building Anthropomorphic animal fantasy in the tradition of Redwall Brutal battles and political intrigue Character-driven heroic journeys Fans of Brandon Sanderson, John Gwynne, and Brian Jacques will feel right at home in the world of Tamuz.

Author Information

Jamie is a Principal Video Game Designer with over seven years of experience in the industry, where he crafts engaging and meaningful narratives for gamers worldwide. His work includes but is not limited to outlining plots, writing dialogue, establishing pacing, characters and character relationships, and world-building. A lifelong fan of fantasy in all its forms-films, novels, and especially video games-Jamie began writing stories about werewolves and dragons as a child. His deep love for immersive, emotionally resonant storytelling led him to game design, where players could live the stories he dreamed up. His debut novel, The King's Bow, began during lockdown and draws inspiration from his passion for fantasy, British wildlife, and classics like The Lord of the Rings and Disney's Robin Hood. The book features a world shaped by anthropomorphic cultures, evolving naturally from his love of animals and the landscapes of the British Isles. Jamie's writing process is guided by loosely structured plans and character instincts, allowing stories to grow organically on the page. He believes the best moments are often those that surprise even the author. Originally from the seaside town in Dorset, Jamie now lives in West Sussex with his wife. When not writing or designing games, he's likely hiking the South Downs, playing board games, or keeping tabs on the Denver Broncos.
