In her foreword, Dawn French describes how when she first met photographer Trevor Leighton in 1981 he was spotty, nervous and intimidated into repeatedly dropping his equipment more by her 'industrial and rather threateningly huge bosoms' than her 'rapier wit'. Since then his passion for portraiture has resulted in a considerable collection of images from the world of show business and 100 of those are collected here in this Who's Who of contemporary comic talent. Old soldiers like Norman Wisdom and Bob Monkhouse rub shoulders with the likes of Steve Coogan and Caroline Aherne. His aim is always to capture a little bit of the 'truth' of his sitters - a process which, according to Dawn French, involves much twitching, pacing up and down and pulling of hair - and the results are invariably striking.
