Author Information

The editors of the Library of America Steinbeck edition are Robert DeMott, Brian Railsback, and Elaine A. Steinbeck (1914–2003). Robert DeMott is the Edwin and Ruth Kennedy Distinguished Professor at Ohio University and the author of Steinbeck’s Typewriter, an award-winning book of critical essays. Brian Railsback is dean of the Honors College at Western Carolina University and the author of Parallel Expeditions: Charles Darwin and the Art of John Steinbeck. Elaine A. Steinbeck, co-editor of Steinbeck: A Life in Letters, was married to John Steinbeck from 1950 until his death in 1968.
