JAMES STANLAW is Professor of Anthropology at Illinois State University, USA. His research interests include Japanese, East and Southeast Asian ethnography and linguistics, cognition, language contact, and sociolinguistics. He was a contributing editor to Anthropology News for the Society for Linguistic Anthropology and was President of the Central States Anthropological Society. His books include Japanese and English: Language and Culture Contact, Wasei Eigo to Nihon-jin, and, with Nobuko Adachi and Zdenek Salzmann, Language, Culture, and Society: An Introduction to Linguistic Anthropology.
