OverviewThe ""calendar-based"" approach to HVAC maintenance is a relic of the past. For decades, facility managers have replaced air filters based on a date on a sticker-often changing them too early, which wastes money and material, or too late, which compromises indoor air quality and spikes energy consumption. This book introduces a paradigm shift: The Data-Driven Filter. By embedding passive RFID tags for identification and differential pressure sensors for real-time performance tracking, we can finally treat the air filter as a dynamic component of a building's nervous system. The goal of this work is to bridge the gap between mechanical engineering and the Internet of Things (IoT), providing a technical roadmap for implementing smart filtration systems that communicate their own health. We are moving toward a future where the building breathes intelligently, notifying us only when it truly needs care.
