His main fields of research are comparative nationalism and federalism, and political theory. He has published articles in several journals and his recent books include Democracy, Nationalism and Multiculturalism (coedited with Ferran Requejo, 2004) and Ethnicité et Politique (coedited with Jean Tournon, 2005). He is vice-chair of the board of the IPSA Committee on Ethnicity and Politics and a member of the editorial board of Nationalism and Ethnic Politics and Pôle Sud.
