OverviewPublished for the first time by Skira, curatorial pioneer Hans Ulrich Obrist's interviews of India's leading artists and art world figures are comprehensively presented in this beautiful book. The interviews collected in this volume are in Hans Ulrich Obrist's signature interview format. Conducted over a period of five years beginning in 2007, including those which he chaired during the Khoj Marathon in Delhi in January 2011, these conversations reveal how aesthetic and cultural practices in India have evolved and transformed over recent years. The interviews are not limited to artists, but are wide ranging, bringing together a whole spectrum of interviewees including architects, scientists, critics, art historians, mathematicians, and filmmakers, amongst others. Together this diverse set of questions and opinions provides a vibrant and impressionistic glimpse into Indian intellectual life. This project is a natural extension of Hans Ulrich Obrist's ongoing investment in the interview as an art form, through which he has crossed paths with some of the most significant thinkers of our time. This volume includes more than 40 interviews, a preface by the author and an introduction by the editor. Each interview is accompanied by a short text outlining the biography of the interviewee and giving some contextual information on their interview. Interviewees include: Tyeb Mehta, M.F. Husain, Amar Kanwar, Anita Dube, Bharti Kher, Bijoy Jain, Dayanita Singh, Dilip Simeon, Geeta Kapur, Gulammohammed Sheikh, Homai Vyarawalla, Jitish Kallat, Lawrence Liang, Nivedita Menon, Thukral and Tagra, Ranjit Hoskote, Ritu Sarin, Sadanand Menon, Sheba Chgachhi, Sheela Gowda, Shilpa Gupta, Subodh Gupta, Nikhil Chopra, Sudarshan Shetty, Sundar Sarukkai, Raqs Media Collective, Vandana Shiva, Vivan Sundaram, Balakrishna Doshi, N.S.Harsha, Nalini Malani, Ranbir Kaleka, Ranjani Shettar, Pushpamala N, Ravi Agarwal, and Desire Machine Collective, amongst others.
