OverviewIn the once beautiful and spacious countryside of a farm, a fatherly sparrow named Passer is surprised to see yellow monsters appearing around Farmer Henry's home. Passer, fearing the worst, decides to embark on a journey to learn if his family is in danger. When the wise neighborhood owl, Ash, tells Passer that his home is threatened by human development, Passer must race against the clock to return home and save his family from impending destruction. Along the way he befriends a crow with a tragic backstory, meets other animals fleeing the destruction of their homes, and fears for his generational friend, Birch, an ancient tree that has stood guard over the farm for hundreds of years. In Job 12:7-8, we are told to learn from the beasts, birds, bushes, and fishes of Creation. As a young boy, many times my parents would say to me as they filled birdfeeders, 'When you are older, never forget to feed the birds.' In many ways, Paul Krause's story is a literary reminder of those words I have honored through the decades. It is a simple story of care, friendship, love, and respect for Creation. This is a story for readers of any age and all ages."" --Timothy J. Demy, Professor, U.S. Naval War College, Rhode Island ""When the language of true and false is degraded, how do you make a story tell fundamental truths? There is one way, one very ancient way and, wisely, Paul Krause has chosen it. It is the use of fable. The Incredible Adventure of Passer the Sparrow is an adventure for every thinking adult and child--or the child in every adult, and the adult in every child. This is the power of fable. It reaches through and beyond the worn words of human narrative and teaching, to the basic experiences that underpin all our truths. And thus, a family of sparrows and their near and distant friends, the dangers they face, and the triumphs they achieve can tell us much of what truly matters in life. Here, in this fable of nature, we join in the unchanging, the eternal, in being human. So, preen your feathers. Become a sparrow with Passer. Feel your wings. Take flight!"" --Harold Jones, Poet, Cambridge and New Zealand Author InformationPaul Krause is a teacher, writer, and poet.
