Overview

"Critical Care Medicine Critical care medicine is more than just a job; it's a passion and a commitment! Basic consideration medication is a profoundly difficult and mind-inciting field and it is our pleased honor to be intensivists. For us, becoming intensivists is a dream come true. Doctors are only allowed to choose this career path if they have prophetic visions, quick thoughts, and swift actions. With the COVID-19 pandemic, intensivists around the world took the lead in managing the dreaded disease, critical care medicine gained its long-awaited recognition, which was previously obscured by the other primary specialties. Bjorn Ibsen started the first intensive care unit (ICU) in 1953 during the polio epidemic, which was the beginning of the field of critical care medicine.[1] The first known use of the term ""intensivist"" dates back almost seven decades, to 1965. The word ""intensivist"" officially entered the Merriam-Webster dictionary on April 29, 2020, just two years after another pandemic brought new recognition to this specialty and the intensivists. During medical school, most of us may have been the last ones to learn about critical care medicine as a super-specialty or as a career option. The medical schools had almost no idea what an intensive care unit was until the end of the 20th century. We often viewed ventilators as a point of no return and regarded them as machines that never captivated us. Even now, medical students rarely, if ever, spend time in the intensive care unit (ICU) during their ward rounds."
